Bamboo Body Australia has been awarded the maximum UPF 50+ excellent sun protection rating by ARPANSA. This means that our fabric is effective as protection against solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and reduces the amount of solar UVR by a factor of over 50!

UPF sun protective clothing protects the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. UPF clothing that is rated 50+ is equivalent to wearing SPF50+ sunscreen and blocks at least 98% of UV rays. UPF 50+ is the highest accreditation for sun protection achievable in the world.

The Bamboo Body collection is made from breathable, natural fibres. The fabric is very soft and comfortable, while the styles are designed to fit into your everyday wardrobe and can be layered and mixed and matched.

What to look for

We test our fabrics with ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency) to measure their UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor).

UPF 50+

Styles with this icon are made from fabrics that have consistently achieved a UPF50+ rating in testing.

UPF 30+

Styles with this icon are made from fabrics that have consistently achieved a UPF rating above 30.

UPF 15+

Styles with this icon are made from fabrics that have consistently achieved a UPF rating above 15.

No Icon – Items with no icon are made from fabric that has not been tested yet, and so we cannot confirm the UPF rating.

UPF RATING

Important to know

Light colours (especially white bamboo spandex) sometimes show inconsistent results. While all tested fabric achieved at least UPF20, not all batches reached UPF50+ every time.
Variations can occur between batches, testing facilities, and even within the same batch. The rating we display is the lowest rating the fabric has achieved through testing.

For the highest level of sun protection, choose:

Styles with the UPF50+ icon
Darker coloured fabrics
Thicker fabrics, such as: Bamboo Organic Cotton Mix, Bamboo French Terry or Bamboo Ribbed Fabric

When we first tested our fabrics, all colours and all blends of fabric achieved a UPF50+ rating. In more recent testing, we’ve found that results can vary - particularly in light colours, even though the fabric composition and thickness are the same. Because of this variation, we show the lowest UPF rating a fabric batch has ever received. The item you purchase may in fact have a higher UPF rating, but we prefer to be transparent and display the most cautious result.
