At Bamboo Body, sustainability has always been at the forefront of everything we do, from the way we produce our bamboo clothing through to our day-to-day business environment.  We are continually looking for ways we can improve our products and production processes. We are excited to launch our Eco Colour Collection, a collection that uses a new eco friendly dyeing technology called 'Dope Dyeing'. This process reduces environmental pollution and wastewater discharges in the dyeing process. 

Instead of the usual piece dyeing, in which the yarn is first knitted into the fabric and then dyed as a whole, dope dyed yarn is the opposite. The yarn itself is dyed to a pre-selected amount of colours, which are then used to create the desired fabric. In other terms, this method of colouring the fabric means colourant is added at the time the fabric is spun, instead of dyeing the end product. The colour is then locked in to the fibre which is resistant to fading, has increased colour fastness and vibrancy. It is also highly resistant to UV fade. The fabric will show some colour variations, which naturally happens when the dyeing occurs. This process also helps create the melange or marle effect.

Compared to traditional wet dyeing, dope dyeing uses no water during the colouring process and significantly reduces the need for dye chemicals.Dyeing is typically one of the most resource-intensive stages in bamboo viscose production. By using dope dyeing instead, we achieve substantial environmental savings across the fabric production process:

• 64% less power usage

• 63% less chemical use

• 63% less overall energy consumption

• 62% lower CO₂ emissions

• 67% reduction in chemical oxygen demand

The manufacturer behind our Eco Colour Collection is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning all products are tested to be free from harmful substances and safe for human use.
